Ink Pressed On: Pulling Art From Layers: A Printmaker's Group Show

23 August - 16 September 2025
"Prints provide us with a rare window into an artist's studio practice, thinking, and process. In drawing, painting, and sculpture, artists labor over their work in an additive or subtractive manner that is often irreversible. Printmaking allows artists to build up images and then deconstruct them, returning to their intial printing plates, or matrixes, to recombine them. This allows artists to see many different variations of an image and to compare them side by side. There is no subjectivity of memory when deciding if this mark or that mark, this color or that color, was right for the work."

- Introduction to "Prints and Their Makers" by Phil Sanders

This exhibition, "Ink-pressed-on: Printing Art in Layers", is the first group show of fine art printmaking at Qube Gallery. Representing 18 artists who are printmakers from the various islands, they come together to introduce their practice exploring pressure, contact, and multiples.

This is a fine overview of contemporary printmaking in the Philippines.
