Fragile World features artist Geovanni Abing’s monumental painting from his new series. In this piece, the artist hints at a surreal ecosystem where nature, technology, and human presence blur into one another. A sense of cyclical tension seems to be present: civilization builds and collapses and yet life persists and reclaims space. The blending of dark and luminous tones adds to that duality that is neither dystopian nor utopian, but something in between. A visual meditation on co-existence and entropy where boundaries between the natural and the artificial world dissolve in time.
Geovanni Abing (b. 1988) is an artist based in Bohol, Philippines. He is drawn to the process of creating art from discarded materials and eventually found upcycling magazines and old books, his weapons of choice. His bright-toned collage works are made from carefully selected pieces of paper and discarded prints. His works range from portraits to surreal landscapes that are transformed into different realities, with ever-evolving narratives that tackle human identity and its environment. In 2020, Abing was the grand prize winner of the Don Papa Rum Art Competition, and another artwork of his was selected for Ateneo Art Gallery Marciano Galang Acquisition Prize. He was also a finalist at the Philippine Art Awards of that same year. He was also featured in Status magazine's March 2017 issue and is among the top ten Filipino artists to follow on Instagram by Spot.ph. To date, Abing has successfully launched eight (8) solo exhibits and multiple group exhibits in Cebu and Metro Manila, Philippines, and Singapore.
