Art Fair Philippines 2021: Pierre Marie Brisson: Return to the Garden of Eden

6 - 26 May 2021

This collection is inspired by the yearning to return to a time untouched by current issues, a place mythically beautiful - a figurative paradise, where heaven meets earth, and man and nature continually frolic.

This collection is composed of a series of small gouache collage paper works from the artist’s studio in the Camargue, France and large scale works from his Cebu atelier. His body of work depicts the harmonious symbiotic relationship between flora and fauna, animating how poetic and timeless nature is. In the small paintings, hints of the rich patina characteristic of signature Brisson oeuvre exists: distressed with craquelure to suggest the antique, but composed in the contemporary. The star of the show are winged creatures - butterflies, birds - that through subtle placement by the artist, the audience can feel the movement and the illusion of space, fitting of being true guardians of the garden of Eden.

No matter the adversity, nature always finds a way. This collection is inspired by the yearning to return to a time untouched by current issues, a place mythically beautiful - a figurative paradise, where heaven meets earth, and man and nature continually frolic.
